I first started my Boxycharm subscription almost a year ago after watching YouTube guru after YouTube guru rave about the value of the boxes and the quality of the items inside. I had though about using a subscription box for a while, and after seeing many normal subscribers like myself shower compliments on Boxycharm and complain that Birchbox and Ipsy were skimping on them but splurging on gurus, I opted to spend the extra money on the Boxycharm subscription.

For those of you that don’t know what Boxycharm is, it’s a monthly makeup and skin care subscription box (but mostly makeup) that costs $22 a month and gives you 5-6 full-sized products whose value always totals over $100. They tend to partner with more indie brands (like OFRA, which has become more mainstream recently) but have also started partnering with bigger brands such as Tarte and PUR.

I’ll be the first to admit that I unsubscribed from Boxycharm a few months ago once I decided that I was receiving too many beauty products I wouldn’t end up using. While I had a bit of FOMO every time I’d receive the newsletter for that month’s box, I was never enticed to resubscribe until this month when I saw the products!

So now, without further ado, let’s check them out!

1. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Volume II Eyeshadow Palette, $36

Now this item is almost the entire reason that I resubscribed to Boxycharm. I adore Tarte as a brand and I always loved their palettes but had never splurged on one myself because I have a lot of the same colors in the palettes I already own, but as soon as I saw this one I fell in love. My previous go-to travel palette has a similar range of colors but I knew wasn’t be as quality as the Tarte palette would be, and boy was I right. The pigmentation on this palette is to die for and the colors are gorgeous! It’s also incredibly versatile, as I know I’ll be able to create light daytime looks and dramatic nighttime looks with the same 8 colors. Every Boxycharmer received this in their box this month which is pretty amazing, considering the palette itself retails for $36 on the shelves!

2. Aloette Face Paint Lip and Cheek Tint, $35

Oh my gosh you guys, this tube blush is SO. FREAKING. PIGMENTED. I’ve always wanted to try out a liquid blush but had never had the opportunity to add it to my makeup collection (and believe me, it’s a collection) so I was so stoked to find this in my Boxycharm this month. It’s a gorgeous deep fuchsia color, and I used what I considered to be the tiniest amount and I still needed to tone it down with some concealer because of how pigmented the color was and how much it covered! I looked like one of those dolls with big, rosy cheeks in all honesty. I’ll admit, I would have chosen a bit of a lighter/more subdued color for myself had I had the option, but I have no doubt that this color will look amazing on those with deeper skin tones than mine. I’ll definitely need to play around with it a bit more!

3. PUR Pro Eyelashes, $14

I’ll admit, this is the one item of out the whole box that I haven’t tried yet, primarily because I only wear false lashes on super formal occasions (like weddings, or when I went on my sorority formal) and I haven’t had one of those events since receiving my box. But y’all, these lashes look gorgeous. My favorite type of lash to buy are definitely the more romantic, wispy type that still look somewhat natural, and these fit that description to a T! I also love the box that they come in since I’ll be able to clean them and store them back in the box without a problem, meaning I’ll get more than one wear out of them. I’m really looking forward to trying these out! Fingers crossed I get to sometime soon!

4. Royal & Langnickel MODA Pro 3-Piece Brush Set, $26

If I’m being completely honest, these brushes were the item(s) I was least excited about in the box. I had subscribed to MorpheMe, a makeup brush subscription service, for about 6 months after I ended my Boxycharm subscription, meaning I now own way more brushes than one person could realistically need. The BMX 130 Pointed Blush brush, for instance? I own 4 brushes of similar shape and size already, and while the bristles are super soft and perfect for depositing loose powder under my eyes to set my concealer, I doubt it’ll get much use. The same goes for the BMX 430 Crease brush, I own a million eyeshadow brushes already. But the BMX 250 Chisel brush? Y’ALL. I’ve never gotten a more defined contour line right at the base of my cheekbone so quickly and so perfectly! I’m in love with it! It hugs the curve of my cheeks while giving me a contour line that blends seamlessly into my bronzer and blush. It’s amazing. Overall, the quality of the brushes is pretty great and I love the quilted detail on the handles as well as the fact that the names are printed on the hilt, but the Chisel brush takes it home for me.

5. Bellapierre Waterproof Gel Eyeliner, $15

You know, I’ll admit, this is probably my least favorite item of the box. I don’t wear black eyeliner unless it’s liquid because I always feel like if you’re going to wear black eyeliner, it should be sharp and clean, which is basically impossible to do with a pencil. On top of that, I hardly ever use pencil eyeliner and will always opt for crayons because they’re softer on your eyelids and easy to maintain. So already we’re not off to a great start. I will say this, though: this stuff does. not. budge. When I would wear black crayon or pencil eyeliner it would always run or transfer after a long day at work, and this didn’t even move after my long 9 hour day! I’ve yet to test out its waterproof capabilities but the fact that it’s transfer proof, and that the color glides on easily without pulling on my eyelids, makes this a pretty great eyeliner in my book.

Overall, this month I received $126 worth of product for $22! I don’t know about you, but I’ve never gotten so much of a discount on items when I’ve gone makeup shopping before. And in all honesty, even if I had disliked most of the items in this month’s box, the Tarte palette alone would have made it so worth it.

The box also came with a card that had the “theme” of the box on the front and information and pricing for the items on the back, which makes it easy to find out the value of your box. In addition, I got a $10 off my order of $60 coupon for tarte.com, meaning that I could save even more!

    1. I actually used it as a lip tint before and it’s super pigmented! You definitely need to apply it with a brush and set it with powder though because it’s pretty creamy

    1. Their eyeshadows can be hit or miss, because I know the Tartlette palette wasn’t that great, but they definitely hit the mark on this one!

  1. I love watching YouTubers unbox Boxycharm boxes-they’re some of my favorite videos! Also, I’m a total Tarte fan-that palette is beautiful & if it smells like the rest of their products, it must smell amazing!

  2. Wow, that is an amazing box! Eventhough Boxycharm is priced a little bit higher than the rest of the beauty boxes, but they always have amazing boxes. That tube blush looks interesting!

    1. I still haven’t quite figured out how to use the tube blush but I’m starting to get the hang of it. But yeah, id definitely rather pay more for 5 full sized products, it’s such a great deal!

    1. You’re definitely right! I think I’m also going to try it in my waterline if I ever where a dark enough look for it, I think it would be perfect for that too

    1. I know right?? It’s why I was so excited to renew my subscription! They knew exactly how to pull me right back in!

  3. I’ve never heard of Boxycharm and I like that it’s different than other beauty subscription services in that it offers full-sized products. I’ve heard great things about Moda brushes, but did you say Morpheme subscription service?! Sign me UP!

    1. Yeah Morphe has a subscription service!! It’s through LiveGlam but you get 3-6 brushes per month for $20 and you’re always guaranteed to get at least $30 worth of brushes. I did it for like 5 months but then I had more brushes than I knew what to do with! Haha

  4. This is my first time reading about Boxycharm, and I’m extremely tempted to sign up! That palette alone is enough to reel me in! Haha. The only subscription box I’m currently subscribed for is Play by Sephora, and I’m really pleased with what I get for $10 a month!
